Welcome to Grow Your Tissues! – Engineering Life, One Cell at a Time! I’m Vivek Thirunellai Radhakrishnan, a biomedical engineer passionate about tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and biomaterials.
Currently, I’m pursuing my MSE in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, where I focus on bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and real-world clinical applications. My research spans drug design, tissue engineering, and molecular biology, with an emphasis on targeted drug delivery, cellular differentiation and organization, and biomaterials for regenerative therapies.
Beyond my academic and research pursuits, I aspire to be a leader and entrepreneur in tissue engineering, working toward transformative solutions in healthcare. I’m particularly inspired by advancements in biomaterials, stem cell engineering, artificial organ development, and translational regenerative medicine.

Why Tissue Engineering?
My journey—from designing nanoscaffolds for diabetic wounds to growing intestinal stem cells in the lab—has shown me the transformative power of tissue engineering. Every project, whether it’s optimizing a biomaterial and cell culture or decoding cellular behavior, brings us closer to a future where organ shortages, tissue rejections and associated inflammation, and chronic wounds amongst many are problems of the past.
Here, I’ll share insights from my research, highlight landmark studies, and discuss the ethical and technical challenges that make this field as thought-provoking as it is revolutionary.
